PUPILS at a Birstall dance school had something to sing and dance about when they won 64 trophies.
Dancers from the Chris Beaumont School of Dance won the trophies at the Yorkshire Open Freestyle Championships in Cayton Bay, near Scarborough, and beat tough competition to be placed in the top three in five sections.

And it wasn't just the pupils taking the glory, but also parents in the parent slow and parent and child sections, making it all the way to the final.

Teacher Chris Beaumont said: "It was a great night of entertainment and showed what good sports they were.

"I was very proud of everyone who took part as they have worked very hard since January. The support they gave each other was brilliant, and just showed what a great team the school has."

All pupils at the school, which meets at Birstall Community Centre in Market Street, are now working towards their dancing exams which will take place in the summer.

Chris said: "This is a very stressful time, which involves 150 pupils taking exams in ballet, tap, modern jazz, gymnastic dance and freestyle disco."
