WORK to build a new sixth form centre in Batley is bang on schedule.
Wakefield builder Rok, on site at Batley Grammar School, has now lifted the floor into place and the work is on target for completion in October.

The £400,000 two-storey extension – designed by Martin Walsh Associates – will provide three extra classrooms as well as a host of student facilities such as study room with computers and video conferencing.

There will also be a relaxation area – with kitchen and tuck shop.

The centre is being built at the back of the main complex, adjoining a 1930s block.

Headteacher Brigid Tullie said: “The building of our new sixth form block is an exciting development. Work is progressing well and we have found Rok to be most understanding of the needs of clients in the educational sector.”

Before the project began, a team from Rok spent time with youngsters from the junior school, Priestley House, teaching them about health and safety and the dangers of playing on building sites.

Last year saw a push by Rok on the education sector that led to nine major new contracts – including repairs to fire damage at Pentland Infant and Nursery School in Savile Town, Dewsbury.

Paul Franklin of Rok said: “The new sixth form centre at Batley Grammar School is our latest project in the education sector and we’re confident the students will be really happy with the new facility.”
