‘I was really astounded by the decision’
Daryl Jackson and his partner Janet Wood have started a petition to ask councillors to have a re-think about building 14 new homes on land in White Lee Road, Batley
An application to build up to 14 new houses on land off White Lee Road, Batley, has been approved.
Councillors at the Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee meeting on Thursday supported the proposal for access to the site.
Residents raised concerns to councillors claiming the new homes would cause traffic chaos.
Janet Wood, of nearby Delmont Close, said: “There is a potential of 28 cars being added to an already busy road.
“The area is already over crowded and there have been many accidents in the past.”
The application for outline planning permission was made by the executors of Ernest and Nora Lenton, the previous owners of the land.
They plan to build a mixture of detached and semi-detached homes on the site.
Councillors visited the area earlier in the day to consider the highway and traffic implications of the proposal.
They agreed to support a speed management scheme when future plans are submitted by the developers.
