Thought for the Week – Heather Exley, Salvation Army

When some people find out that I belong to a slimming club they ask me why I bother when I don’t need to lose weight now.

This is probably true but the fact is that now I have attained my target weight I would like to stay there so each week I go along and get weighed.

However in my spiritual life it’s quite different.

I know I need to grow in God’s Grace. Grace is the undeserved free gift we are given by God to forgive us of our sins and to help us cope with all that life has to throw at us.

Although this costs us nothing it was very costly to Jesus who gave His life to buy this free gift for us.

Last week our Major at the Salvation Army gave us a lovely illustration of what we miss by not accepting God’s Grace.

She said it’s the equivalent of a man starving to death with access to a full cupboard of food.

Food that he is too lazy to eat!

I hope you are not in that number.

We each need God’s help in the world today. I would go so far as to say we cannot cope without it.

So although physically I don’t want to get any bigger, s piritually I need to grow bigger each day.

With God’s help I can I just need to ask.
