Thought for the Week: Sunshine to be found, despite typical bank holiday weather

It’s typical bank holiday weather as I write this. A holiday and the weather is uninviting! There are things to look forward to though. The Paralympics start on Wednesday. And if the weather is kind this week we might have a day out.
It can be so easy to let things get us down. A saying of my father-in-law’s was that “there is always someone worse off than you”. Lately we have heard of people and situations that are worse than ours. And then we hear stories of things that people do or say that brighten life, for us and for others. Often this happens in unexpected places and are done by people we least expect. In the Bible we read of Jesus doing and saying things that people did not expect. He reached out to people who, in their society, were considered to be of no worth. Everyone was a human being and important no matter what their circumstances.
That is still true today. God’s love reaches out to all, and can bring sunshine into every day, no matter what the weather might be like outside.
