Letter: All publicity is good publicity
TURNING HEADS: Simon Cowell lookalike Martin Barker is interviewed by the News' Rebecca Draper in Commercial Street, Batley.
I WAS glad to see Batley’s magnanimous spirit of forgiveness extended towards Simon Cowell last week (‘Cowell comes to town?’, News, August 23).
Just imagine: the poor man is forced to roam the oceans ceaselessly, to escape from his over-zealous fans.
Isn’t it lovely that he could find a brief safe haven here in Batley!
Our town and its pool of gifted people are obviously always on his mind, even when he is relaxing on his yacht in the middle of the Mediterranean.
If only he could reach dry land by September 29, he could come along to Batley Festival and see for himself the range and richness of Batley’s talent, especially in the ancient Yorkshire art of toothless yodelling.
Perhaps we should be thanking the Mirror for giving Batley Festival such wonderful free publicity, because after all, as the showbiz saying has it, “What’s worse than being talked about? Not being talked about!”
