Support for NHS workers

Admin and clerical members of Unison's Mid Yorkshire Health branch are striking over job and pay cuts planned at the Mid Yorkshire Hospital Trust's sites in Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract. Hundreds of staff will walk out on Thursday to join picket lines outside each of the hospitals before a rally in Wakefield city centre.

I SPENT a short time outside Dewsbury and District Hospital last Thursday morning supporting the NHS workers in their protest against the downgrading of their posts, leading to a cut in pay.

The workers involved in the protest are already some of the lowest paid in the NHS, showing once again, the poorest paid, bear the brunt of any spending cuts.

The Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust is trying to split the workforce, by making the staff not in the first round of cuts somehow think it is not their problem, and not get involved.

I am sure all of the staff can already see through this, and will stick together and back each other up. In any organisation where changes have to be made, they must start at the top first and filter down to the lower grades.

The people at the top should lead by example and accept a meaningful decrease in their salaries.

I wonder if Mr Eames will be the first to volunteer to hand back his inflated salary.

The protesters outside the hospital were supported by everyone who passed, and have the backing off the general public in their fight for survival.
