Good works of the 'Army'
Published Date:

WHEN I was a boy the Salvation Army came down our street every Sunday morning playing their music.
Years later, I would buy their newspaper, The War Cry, every Friday in my local pub.
They were an organisation, irrespective of one's beliefs, that you could respect.
I now read in your newspaper that a member of the Salvation Army objects to removing her footwear because of Islamic artefacts at an exhibition.
Heather Exley's complaint about 'pandering to Muslims' devalues the good work of the Salvation Army which has always displayed an international spirit.
Looking at their website the Salvation Army in the Philippines is providing emergency relief to almost 2,300 displaced families. They are providing emergency assistance to people who have fled the fighting between the Russian and Georgian armed forces.
In North Eastern Romania the Salvation Army is providing vital basic assistance to those 12,000 affected by severe flooding in Moldovia.
If Heather Exley's views are predominant in the modern Salvation Army then they have lost my respect.
