Coun Peter O'Neill officially opens the cascade in Wilton park with the help of Gerry Hird.

THE refurbished water cascade was brought to life at Wilton Park on Saturday.

The finale of Wilton Park and Bagshaw Museum’s centenary celebrations saw Coun Peter O’Neill (Lab, Batley West) officially open the water feature, sending fresh water tumbling down the ornate steps into the park’s lake.

Gerry Hird, former chairman of the now disbanded Friends of Wilton Park, was also on hand to give a speech prior to the cascade switch-on.

The cascade’s makeover was part of a £50,000 Heritage Lottery project to mark the centenary with a heritage trail and exhibition.
