YOUNGSTERS can spend their weekends running, swinging and climbing after a play area got a touch of TLC.
Residents in Woodsome Estate, Batley, campaigned for their central games area to be revamped and can now enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Fencing has been put up around a sports court to prevent stray balls breaking windows in nearby homes and the swings, slide and climbing frame of the play area have been given a much-needed lick of paint.
Harun Karolia, who organised a petition for the park’s makeover with friends Hanif Khan and Hasan Badat, said kids had been flocking to the play area since the improvements were made.
Coun Gwen Lowe (Lab, Batley West), said the park was looking ‘very tired’ before.
She said: “They are so lucky to have a play area like this, there are a lot of families around here.
“Mr Karolia is a great community activist.”
