Performers bring the arts to our doorstep

INSPIRING ACTS Manasamitra is hosting two free events in our district.

Talented performers will share South Asian music and dance during two free performances in our district.

Traditional rhythms and contemporary rap will be combined when Inder Goldfinger and his son, Raj Silverfinger, take to the stage at Dewsbury Town Hall next week.

Mr Goldfinger has previously worked with the likes of singer Annie Lennox, actress Vanessa Redgrave and Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown, while his son is an up and coming artist in his own right.

The duo are working with Kirklees College students before the event to create a series of short poems and songs which will be set to rap beats and used by visual artist Sara Bevan to create artwork to be displayed at the venue.

The performance of rap, percussion and poetry with an introductory talk and audience questions is on Thursday, 1.30pm-3pm. A second event on Wednesday March 27 will focus on contemporary dance.

Choreographer Anusha Subramanyam will perform Golden Peacock, which was first seen at the Epic Women Conference in India. It celebrates the life, writings and philosophy of Burmese politician Aung San Suu Kyi.

The event at Batley Town Hall, 1.30pm-3pm, will also include an introductory talk and audience questions.

Both events have been commissioned by Dewsbury arts organisation Manasamitra.
