A WOMAN who showed her concern for the environment at a Birstall exhibition has been rewarded with a new bike.
Louise Birkenshaw was one of hundreds of shoppers at Birstall Shopping Park to fill in questionnaires expressing their views and priorities on sustainability and climate change.

All respondents' cards were placed in a raffle to win the new bike.
Louise, from Drighlington, is nearing the end of her maternity leave, and was thinking about buying a bike for the fairly short journey from her home to where she works.

She said: "I have been putting off the purchase as most of my disposable income has been going on the children, and this has come as a very welcome surprise."

The questionnaires were part of an environment exhibition held at the Junction 27 shopping park.

Visitors were given the chance to see how making small changes could help reduce the town's carbon footprint with information on energy use, carbon emissions, sustainable transport, water use, recycling and waste reduction.

Many respondents said the most important was to increase recycling, followed by reducing energy use.
