A BATLEY Girls' High School pupil has been named amongst the top ten students by a national exam board.
Zahraa Abdul Muhsen Ahmad achieved one of the highest marks in her Arabic A-level exam out of 762 people sitting the test earlier this year and has been commended by Edexcel, the UK's largest awarding body.

Edexcel's Managing Director, Jerry Jarvis, said: "This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work students put into preparing for their exams. We send our congratulations to Zahraa Abdul Mushen."

And it's been another good year all around for A level students at the Howden Clough School.

With a 96 per cent pass rate, 14 of the 18 subjects taught has seen all pupils pass, 56 per cent of those with grades A-C.

Headteacher Jackie Eames said: "Unsurprisingly, in our Visual Arts College, every single student achieved an A, B or C grade in Art, 50 per cent an A or B.

"In Product Design all students achieved A-C and twin sisters Asia and Asma Patel both scored A grades."

Other subjects with a100 per cent A-C grade were Sociology and Urdu. English results saw 63 per cent of pupils achieving A-C.

But Mrs Eames said the best individual A2 performance was by deputy head girl, Yasmin Badat, who scored A grades in Sociology, English Language and R.E. And the school's best point score was achieved by all rounder Noor-Ul-Ann Ali who achieved an A in RE, B in Chemistry and C in Biology at A2, which adds to her B in AS English Language and C in Psychology.

As results were published on Thursday, Mrs Eames said: "There will be a lot of proud parents today and it's great to see the fruits of so much commitment from staff and students alike."
