Bombings survivor joins walk for peace
A SURVIVOR of the London bombings was in Batley on Monday, leading a month-long walk aimed at building bridges between communities.
WalkTalk was the idea of Gill Hicks who lost both legs as a result of the attacks in the capital on July 7 2005.
The walk, between Leeds and London, is to give participants in the towns and cities it passes through a chance to walk and talk together.
People from Batley and Dewsbury joined in as the walk set off from the Frontier and went along Bradford Road to Dewsbury Sports Centre.
Mrs Hicks, who set up Making a Difference (Mad) for Peace said: "I am truly grateful to be alive, and I am determined to make my life count, to make a significant difference.
"Building peace and reconcilitaion and obviously trying to deter anyone from following a path to violent action is my main focus.
"WalkTalk is the first major project that Mad for Peace has initiated – it was actually my husband Joe's idea. We had been giving a lot of thought as to what we could do together using our combined strengths."
