The former step-dad of Shannon Matthews has been refused bail by a crown court judge in Leeds.
Craig Meehan, 22, is accused of possessing more than 100 indecent images of children.

The images were allegedly found on a computer at the home he shared with Shannon’s mother Karen Matthews in Moorside Road, Dewsbury Moor.

Judge Peter Collier
QC refused Meehan bail this week. Meehan was not in court for the bail application.

He denies all the charges and his trial, expected to last five days, will start on Monday.

Meehan is charged with 11 specimen offences of possession of indecent images of children graded at levels one to four – on a scale where one is the least serious and five is the most serious.

Meehan is also charged with possessing an indecent image of a young girl on a mobile phone.

He appeared at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court for a pre-trial hearing last Wednesday.

Shannon went missing on February 19 and was discovered hidden in the base of a bed in a flat one mile from her home after a 24-day search by police.

Meehan's uncle, Michael Donovan, 39, of Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr, has been charged with Shannon's kidnap and imprisonment.

Both he and Matthews, who is charged with child neglect and perverting the course of justice, will appear at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow to enter pleas.
