PRACTICAL jokes and the dangers of drugs were the themes of two films made in Batley.
Young people taking part in Engage In Batley, a project aimed at the unemployed and those not in training, filmed passers by pointing into the sky outside The Mill on Bradford Road.

Art tutor Jay Bell explained: "We were granted permission by The Mill to film outside. It started with two people pointing into the sky, and then passers-by would look up wondering what they were staring at. Before long there were about 10 people all looking up – at nothing.

"It was a harmless practical joke and as a film it worked very well."

The project, which is funded by the Learning Skills Council and Kirklees College, also involved a second film, a cautionary tale about a girl whose life falls apart when she begins taking drugs.

Jay said: "We filmed part of this at the Frontier, who were very helpful.

"The project is about engaging young people in the wider community and getting them enthused about training."
