THE funeral of popular Edward Thorpe will take place next Thursday.
Road sweeper Mr Thorpe, fondly known as Eddie, was found dead at his home in Howard Street in Batley Carr last month.

Tributes flooded into the News office as Mr Thorpe’s large number of friends and colleagues tried to come to terms with the sudden death of the “gentle” and “jolly” 58-year-old.

Mr Thorpe, who was a Jehovah’s Witness, had a passion for music and wrote and performed folk songs.

The funeral takes place on Thursday March 27 at The Kingdom Hall, in Lees Hall Road, Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury.

The service starts at 2pm, followed by burial at Dewsbury Cemetery at 3pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

A post mortem revealed Mr Thorpe died from serious head injuries.

Richard Edward Thorpe has been charged with murder and is due to appear before Leeds Crown Court on May 9.
