A HEALTH service base in Batley could soon be on the move.
The office at Beckside Court will go as part of NHS Kirklees’ plans to create one HQ to serve the whole area.

But jobs are unlikely to be affected and the Batley Health Centre will stay as it is.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “District
nurses, the locality manager and other crucial services are based at the health centre and that won’t change.

“The centre is the heart of our presence in Batley.”

At present, NHS Kirklees is run from two separate sites – one in Crosland Moor in Huddersfield and from Beckside Court, in Bradford Road. The organisation plans to move to purpose-built premises at the Bradley Business Park in a £6m deal.

Health chiefs want to scrap the two-site system and bring the corporate team together under one roof. This will mean the transfer of around 300 people from Beckside Court and St Luke’s House at Crosland Moor – hopefully by 2010.

It is thought moving will work out cheaper than the cost of running two sites with savings as high as £1m over 10 years.

The move is also necessary as the Crosland Moor site owners, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust, is closing hospital services there and selling the land.

The spokesman said: “We are planning to move into new headquarters at Bradley Mills in early 2010. This will combine the services currently provided from two sites, St Luke’s House and Beckside Court.

“The full business case for the new offices has been approved by the NHS Kirklees Board and has been submitted to NHS Yorkshire and the Humber. The outline business case has already been approved. NHS Kirklees sought advice from the district valuer to confirm these plans represent value for money.”

The new building will initially be leased for 10 years.

“There will be an annual saving of at least £98,000 on headquarters’ running costs, so nearly £1m over 10 years which is good news for the NHS in Kirklees,” said the spokesman.

“Before deciding on this location, NHS Kirklees reviewed its office needs to increase overall efficiency and effectiveness. The final decision was taken after considerable consultation with staff.

“The move to a single headquarters will mean all corporate staff are under one roof as opposed to the two sites currently in operation.

“NHS Kirklees will however, still have a presence in each of the seven localities with nursing teams and other healthcare professionals working out of the main health centre buildings such as Batley, Dewsbury and Cleckheaton.”
