FIELDHEAD residents are being asked to help local services keep the estate cleaner.
Kirklees Council is urging householders to remove any rubbish and household items from their gardens ready for a collection of furniture, cookers, washers, dryers and garden rubbish from 750 homes on April 5.

The collection has been organised by B
atley and Fieldhead Neighbourhood Management as part of a 'street action' initiative, which will also highlight how to get rid of waste and rubbish correctly.

Coun Liz Smaje, cabinet member for Leisure and Neighbourhood Services, said: "We want residents to take pride in their area.

"They can help to make it cleaner by supporting this action and working with local services."

Staff from different agencies will be in the area from Monday to talk to residents and give them an information pack, two bin liners and instructions on when to leave their rubbish out.

The packs also include telephone numbers and advice about how to arrange free collections with the council in future .

Agencies supporting the initiative include Kirklees Council's Community Support Services, Highways and Transportation and Environmental Services and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH).

Community Rangers and KNH staff will check the area a week later to make sure all rubbish has been taken away.

Residents will be consulted afterwards in an evaluation of the scheme.

Free collections of fridges, freezers, asbestos or concrete blocks can be arranged by calling 01484 414700.
