A 56-year-old Batley man arrested in connection with the death of a 32-year-old woman in Leeds city centre has been released on police bail.
The man, who has not been named, was the driver of a minibus involved in an accident in Merrion Street at its junction with New Briggate shortly after 4pm on Monday.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was questioned by police. Yesterday he was released without charge, pending further inquiries.

The 24-seater white Mercedes minibus was from Loonat Coaches, which is based in Talbot Street, Batley.

The woman, from Wakefield, had been walking along the pavement when the accident happened.

She was trapped between the minibus and the Subway sandwich bar after the vehicle mounted the pavement and hit the wall.

The woman was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with multiple injuries and died later that evening.

The road was closed for several hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information to help with the investigation is asked to contact Pc Kevin Judd at Holbeck Roads Policing Unit on 01132 414642 or 0845 6060606.
