WORK on a £27.9m road safety scheme on the M62 is being hampered by vandals.
Construction firm Balfour Beatty has made several complaints to police about damage to fibre optic cables.
The cables are vital for CCTV set up to monitor traffic during work between Brighouse at junction 25 and Tingley at junction 28.
A police spokesman said several fibre optic cables had been cut and some main cables had also been stolen.
"Without CCTV they are unable to see potential hazards to road users and workers, especially vehicles which may break down through the roadworks," he said. "The company is concerned a potentially serious incident may take place."
Phone PC Tracey Boucher at Cleckheaton police station on 01924 295357 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
