A BOXING coach is swapping his gloves for running shoes next month to raise funds for an armed forces charity.
Batley Boxing Club founder Yusuf Hameed will be pounding the pavements on an eight-mile route starting from Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury, on Saturday October 6.
Yusuf, of Whitaker Street, is seeking sponsors to support him on his run to raise cash for Army of Angels, which supports injured service personnel on their return from combat duty.
He said: “I’ve chosen to support this charity because it does a fantastic job but seems to get overlooked in favour of some of the bigger organisations.
“It has the same aims but it also supports the wider families rather than just the servicemen and women, so if a relative is affected by what’s happened they can get help from the charity as well.”
A friend of the former professional Muay Thai boxer is still finalising the exact route but Yusuf said he’d be delighted if anyone wanted to join him in completing some or all of the distance. He will set off from the park at 10am.
Yusuf and his supporters will be collecting money and selling raffle tickets en route, with the draw to be made at the end of the course.
Anyone wishing to donate a raffle prize or to sponsor Yusuf – or who would also like to run – can contact him on 07414 080473 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
