A former bank is going back to its roots to help people manage their finances.
The Bank Bar, in Hick Lane, Batley, has introduced weekly drop-in sessions where customers can get advice from a qualified financial advisor.
The former HSBC branch was bought by entrepreneur Stephen Battye in 2008 and transformed into a bar.
Current owner Chris Ingram has teamed up with John Phillips, a financial advisor, to help people manage their money.
The drop-in sessions run every Friday, 10am-12.30pm, and are free.
Visitors can ask for expert advice on tax issues, savings, loans and mortgages over coffee.
The initial consultation is free, but fees may apply if customers choose to go ahead with a mortgage or savings plan or for further services.
The entrepreneur said he felt there was a need for the advice service as more and more people try to cut costs and spend wisely as a result of the recession.
He added that he also wanted to attract more businesses and traders to the weekly sessions, to create a weekly networking hub in the venue.
“I’m hoping to get other businesses to come along to the coffee morning, so more businesses in Batley can work together,” he said.
He added that the venue would also welcome Slimming World groups, community meetings and other events.
“Everyone I have spoken to has been positive about the idea.
“It’s a beautiful building.”
