A pub chef from Birkenshaw has won a national cooking competition thanks to his signature vegetable creation.

Neil Pearson, Kitchen manager at Farmhouse Inns’ pub, the Heathfield Farm, cooked up a new vegetable dish as part of the group’s Veg Chef of the Year competition.

Neil’s creation, the Bubble and Squeak Bake, fought off competition from more than 50 other entries and will now see his dish on the carvery deck at all Farmhouse Inn pubs.

He said: “I was really pleased with how my veg dish turned out, but never expected to be awarded the winning title at the Veg Chef of the Year competition.

“It just goes to show that veg dishes can still be exciting when left in the right hands. I can’t wait to hear what our guests think at Heathfield Farm!”
