Firefighters tackled a blaze at a glass manufacturer in Dewsbury this morning (Monday).

Crews were called to Oakland Glass at Bretton Street Industrial Estate, Savile Town, at 8.12am.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the fire began in a glass cutting oven and the blaze was tackled by two breathing apparatus wearers and large jets.

Around five per cent of the building was involved in the blaze, which was contained to one unit, and crews had to clear the building of smoke and carry out salvage work.

Workers were alerted to the blaze when the fire alarm went off and the building was evacuated before emergency services arrived.

The fire has knocked the power out at the building and one pump from Dewsbury Fire Station remains at the scene.
