Four people rescued after fire breaks out in Batley flats

Four people had to be rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in a block of flats last night.

Six pumps from stations across West Yorkshire were called to help tackle the blaze at the Wheatcroft complex in Hanover Street, Batley, shortly before midnight.

A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said they had received reports of a number of people being inside the three-storey block of flats.

Four people were rescued from the building after several flats were searched by firefighters.

Crews from Dewsbury, Cleckheaton, Morley, Ossett and Hunslet worked together to put out the fire and get everyone to safety.
