People interested in backing Bagshaw are wanted for a new friends group.
A meeting will be held on Sunday in a bid to establish a new Friends of Bagshaw Museum group.
Kirklees Council said increasing interest and participation in the museum’s activities and events had led to calls for a new support group to be formed for the museum and its surroundings.
Friends groups represent people’s views and help to influence decisions, as well as organising events to boost the museum’s profile.
Tolson Museum in Huddersfield has formed a successful Friends group which is seeking Heritage Lottery funding for improvement works to the museum and park.
Bagshaw Museum, based in the upper gardens of Wilton Park, Batley, hopes to follow in its footsteps.
The Friends of Wilton Park supported events in the museum held events in the park for five years before disbanding in August last year.
It played a major role in Bagshaw Museum and Wilton Park’s centenary year celebrations, funded by a £50,000 Heritage Lottery grant.
The grant funded the refurbishment of Wilton Park’s lake cascade, a photo exhibition, heritage trail and commemorative stone, which sits outside Bagshaw Museum.
The meeting to establish the new Friends group will be held at the museum on Sunday at 10.30am.
The process of forming a Friends group will be explained and, if a group is formed, a chairman, secretary and treasurer will be elected as well as other committee members.
Everyone is invited to become a member. For more information call 01924 326155.
