Making bananas fair was at the top of the agenda at a Fairtrade coffee morning on Saturday.

Batley Parish Church hosted the event to raise awareness of the need for a fair deal for banana traders – only one in three bananas sold in the UK is traded fairly.

Church member Liz Benson said fairtrade helped farmers invest in their futures.

She said: “It can go towards getting clean water and building proper houses, and educating children – the more education they have the better their lives can be.”
