A blight on Batley

PARTS of Batley have been labelled ‘dog poo city’ by people horrified at the level of fouling.

Disgusted residents are alarmed at the potential health risk - especially to children.

One childminder says she has to walk youngsters in the road to avoid piles of dog dirt.

And while careless owners take most of the flak, there have been questions about the number of ‘poo bins’ provided by Kirklees Council.

Gemma Harrison pleads: “If you walk a dog from Moat Hill to Brownhill School, please pick up after it. It is absolutely disgusting and has been for months.

“As a childminder I sometimes have to walk four children on the road just to avoid it. If you can’t look after your dogs, you don’t deserve to have them.

“It is truly disgusting, especially in the ginnel between Harefield Road and Burnside Close where things are getting worse. Owners need to take more responsibility. But when my two-year-old is watching out for dog poo and telling other people to do the same, there is a problem!”

Moira Hirst, who walks from Brookroyd Lane to Northbank Road with a pram, said on the News Facebook site: “You would not believe the piles I have to avoid. The dog owners should be ashamed.”

It is an offence not to pick-up, with fines up to £1,000.
