Sport chiefs have launched a new campaign to encourage mums in North Kirklees to become fitness and physical activity coaches.

The Mums’ Team campaign aims to inspire and support mothers across the region to lead and coach sporting activities.

It is being organised by West Yorkshire Sport and South Yorkshire Sport, with funding from Sport England.

Helen Marney, director of operations at South Yorkshire Sport, said: “Mums’ Team is about giving mums the opportunity to build leadership and coaching skills, run activities and workouts with confidence and, most importantly, make exercise fun for others in their communities, families and friendship groups.

“We are looking for passionate mums of all ages and all walks of life who would like to take on a central role in leading sport and activity across our communities and would like support to get there.”

The project - free to those who sign up - is part of the Reach initiative , a national campaign by sports coach UK which aims to get more women involved in coaching sport.

Organisers say they hope to recruit more than 100 mums this month.

Mums who sign up will attend a training programme , have access to funds to help others people become active and receive ongoing support and training from a team of mentors.
