Batley Girls’ High School got the stamp of approval from careers experts for the fourth time in a row.

And the Howden Clough school is committed to further improving its careers education by encouraging parents to get involved.

Last week deputy headteacher Ray Henshaw accepted the C&K Careers Quality Standard in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) on behalf of the school.

Its careers service was rigourously assessed to ensure its CEIAG was in line with national standards.

Mr Henshaw said: “They assess us on the extent to which we are preparing pupils for the world of work – work related learning but also getting them working with employers and understanding the reality of workplaces.

“It really is fantastic, we’re absolutely proud.”

Mr Henshaw added that the school was the first secondary school to receive the C&K accrediation in 1999.

The school arranges internships with Cummins Turbo Technologies in Huddersfield and also works with apprentices at its on-site farm.

And workshops held at the Al-Hikmah Centre in Track Road on Saturday and Monday successfully involved parents in the school’s Early Career Coaching Programme, run in conjunction with careers education firm Talentino.

The programme, aimed at year eight pupils, sees parents and volunteers learn basic careers coaching skills to allow them to run careers sessions for pupils.

Student peer coaches at the school are also involved.

The training provides coaches with the resources and knowledge to guide their own daughters and other pupils in making career decisions and developing skills employers want.
