Hardworking staff at Kirklees College were honoured at a special ceremony.

After dozens of nominations for teaching and support staff, 20 category winners were announced at the college’s KC Stars awards.

The members of staff were nominated by their peers for accolades, which were presented by Huddersfield Town FC’s commercial director Sean Jarvis and Martin Deans, from the college.

The awards recognise those with a high quality of work or staff who have had an impact on others around them.

Peter McCann, principal at Kirklees College, said: “The only way the college can successfully achieve our mission of ‘Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives’ is through having creative, dedicated, caring and professional people in our workforce.

“Kirklees College is blessed with many such wonderful staff, committed to the highest standards of public service.

“It gives me great pleasure to celebrate the achievements of colleagues who have been nominated by their fellow staff members as Kirklees College Stars – shining brightly as an example to all.”

There were more than 150 nominations made by peers for their colleagues at the awards.

Some individual staff were honoured for their contribution to college life, while others were recognised full team efforts.

The Curriculum Team of the Year was won by Health and Social Care – Work Based Learning and Most Improved Curriculum Team Performance was Access to HE.

The award for Business Support Team of the Year went to Additional Learning Pastoral Support – Dewsbury Centre and Most Improved Business Team Performance on the night was Student Voice.

The People’s Choice – STAR Award was won by Corrine Scandling from Teacher Education and The Outstanding Contribution Award, chosen by the college’s Senior Leadership Team, went to Enterprise Manager Lydia Butterworth.

Principal Peter McCann also received a special award for Outstanding Contribution to Further Education.

The event, held at the college’s Huddersfield centre, was sponsored by Pennine Business Partners, Stafflex and Sleigh and Story.

Staff enjoyed a champagne reception and meal, with entertainment by IYG – a group of music students from the college’s Highfields Centre for Music, Media and Performance.
