Comet announces administration

COMET has announced it will be put into administration next week.

The electrical chain has 240 stores across the country, including one at junction 27 in Birstall.

Private equity firm OpCapita, which owns the business, announced today (Thursday) that it has appointed Deloitte as administrator.

It will run the business as it assesses options for sales, closures and liquidation, with around 6,500 jobs now at risk.

Comet could follow in the footsteps of other high street names that have left the Birstall shopping complex this year.

In June Birstall Shopping Park’s branch of Clinton Cards closed its doors, while in March its Game store ceased trading.
