Cycling in honour of Le Tour legend

The 75-mile Brian Robinson Challenge Ride, which has been running since 2007, returns to the region this year on April 24.

The event is named after former elite cyclist Brian Robinson, of Mirfield, who was the first Brit to win a stage at the Tour de France.

It is raising money this year for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which provides support for people living with terminal illnesses and their families.

Riders will travel from near Huddersfield New College campus and follow a route along the Pennines at Buckstones Moor.

They will then cross into Lancashire before riding back through Yorkshire over Standedge.

The event is organised by Coun Martyn Bolt (Con, Mirfield).

Riders will be supported during the race by motorcycle marshals from West Yorkshire Advanced Motorcyclists, who will be on hand offer maintenance and first aid assistance.

At about half way during the journey, there will also be a food station.

This event aims to encourage cyclists to challenge themselves and certificates will be handed out to riders depending on the time it takes them to complete the circuit.
