Deputy head leaves for pastures new

A deputy headteacher has said a fond farewell after taking an exciting new role in Wakefield.

Ray Henshaw, the transformation deputy head at Batley Girls’ High School (BGHS), will begin his new job as principal of Minsthorpe Community College in January.

Mr Henshaw, who has worked at BGHS for nine years, said he was proud to have been part of the development of the Birstall school.

He said: “It’s been fantastic for me, I have been at the heart of it and I have seen the school grow and go on to its outstanding rating after the recent Ofsted visit.”

Executive headteacher Jackie Eames said she wished him all the best in his challenging new role.

She said: “During his time here, Ray has truly transformed our premises and our practices.

“Our students’ experience within and beyond the curriculum have been hugely enhanced by Ray’s innovative ideas and outstanding practice in the classroom.”
