Eaterie hit again

A BIRSTALL restaurant owner has been left speechless after his new premises were hit for the second time in less than a week.
Abdul Kahir couldn’t believe it when a window was smashed at his Low Lane eaterie – just days after a big clean-up following a more serious attack by vandals.
“I don’t know what to say,” said Mr Kahir. “I can’t think who is behind this.”
The Bangla Lounge had only just moved into bigger premises when doors were smashed and oil was poured over furnishings. Demand for its Bangladeshi cuisine had triggered the move to a bigger venue from elsewhere in Birstall.
A defiant Mr Kahir vowed: “They won’t deter me.”
But the latest incident has left him puzzled.
“I have never had any issues while I have been in business in Birstall,” he said.
The attack took place after the popular restaurant closed at midnight. “Everything was fine,” said Mr Kahir. “Then in the morning I got a call to say a window had been put through. A pint glass had been thrown inside and there was lager all over the place.”
Mr Kahir quickly arranged a repair before a large booking that same evening.
“I can’t afford to close as we are so busy,” he said. “I am getting many new customers and boarded-up windows is not an impression I want to give.”
In the wake of the attacks, he has bought four CCTV units to install.
“A last resort is shutters,” he said. “But again, I don’t want my business to look like that.”
He is appealing for anyone with information to contact police, who are investigating.
