A father hurled racial abuse at a children’s centre worker after having an argument with his wife.
Sean Price, of Grange Road, Batley, went to collect his partner and their children from the Sure Start Centre, in Staincliffe, last December.
But the 40-year-old fell out with his wife, and whilst leaving the premises shouted racial abuse at a member of staff.
Price pleaded guilty at Kirklees Magistrates Court to a charge of racially-aggravated threatening behaviour.
Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said Price walked past the office where the staff member was working with a colleague. She said: “The defendant looked into the office and stuck two fingers up at her.”
Magistrates heard Price then proceeded to hurl racial abuse at the victim.
Mrs Fowler said: “She was really shocked and upset by his actions. They were very hurtful comments and she informed her manager and the police.”
Peter Hampson, mitigating, said Price had been going through a difficult time.
Mr Hampson said: “He is in the process of being evicted from his property. He has appealed but his family faces the prospect of being put out on the streets.
“He had a big argument with his wife and said some very unpleasant remarks. It is a very sad incident.” The court also heard Price smoked cannabis and suffered from severe back pain.
Price was given a 12 month community order with a 30 day activity requirement, and a two-week curfew.
He was ordered to pay the victim £50 in compensation, pay £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
