The turkey and crackers took a back seat this year for a Birstall couple, as they received a Christmas gift to remember.
Liz and Will Acornley gave birth to baby Florence Mae on Christmas Day, and admitted the presents were left under the tree.
Proud dad Will said: “We did not get a Christmas at all this year – the presents were left under the tree, and we didn’t see them until Monday!
“But we are so happy Florence is here – she’s the best Christmas present we could have hoped for.”
Florence Mae Acornley was born in Dewsbury and District Hospital at 3.06pm, weighing 8lb 6oz, after a mammoth 18-hour labour, which began at 3.30am on Christmas Eve.
Liz was due to give birth on December 22, but one person had already predicted a Christmas baby.
Will added: “Liz’s grandma predicted she would have the baby on Christmas Day, and she was right!”
The couple married in December 2009, but had only been trying for a few months before Liz fell pregnant in March.
Will said: “We have been trying since November last year, so we were lucky it happened quite quickly.”
Liz added: “I think after this Christmas, we are going to have a quiet new year.”
