A 15 year-old boy is recovering in hospital after falling off a roof in Heckmondwike last night.

The boy is understood to have fallen 25 feet after he stepped on some glass panelling on an office roof which gave way and fell inside the building. He was trying to retrieve a ball at the time.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Union Street at around 9.45pm, where they found the boy conscious and breathing.

A spokesman for the West Yorkshire Fire Service said: “We were called at 9.45pm to 600 Group Business premises on Union Street.

“A 15 year-old boy had fallen approximately 25ft through a skylight panel.

“The boy is very lucky not to have fallen on anything sharp, given there were metal pallets inside.”
