YOUNGSTERS heading to their local madressah on dark evenings are staying safe thanks to Fox’s Biscuits.

The Wellington Street factory raised concerns about whether their HGV drivers would be able to see the children making their way to the Madressah Islamiyyah in Purlwell Lane, Batley, as they walked past the firm’s goods vehicle entrances.

To help the children stand out in the dark, Fox’s took the advice of Kirklees Council’s Streetscene and issued the children with hi-vis slap bands to wear around their arms.

Fox’s fleet manager Philip Sykes said: “When we realised we had a problem of children not being seen by our HGV drivers, we thought we had to help make these children safer.”

On behalf of the madressah, Coun Hanif Mayet (Lab, Batley East) said: “We would like to thank everybody at Fox’s Biscuits for their concern over the safety of the children attending our madressah and for the company’s very generous offer.

“We will be giving the slap bands out to all the children now that the evenings have got darker earlier and make sure that the children always wear them on the way to and from the madressah.”
