The regeneration of a derelict building into a new Birstall town centre store has been approved by councillors.
The unit at 61 Low Lane, Birstall, had already been refurbished, with a new roof, new windows and an access ramp installed.
An application for planning permission was submitted by owner Mr S Singh after Kirklees Council took enforcement action.
It was put before the Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee in January but deferred after councillors raised issues regarding the building structures and its external appearance.
On Thursday councillors approved the plans and said they were satisfied all the issues had been resolved. Mr Singh told the sub-committee he had run shops in other areas but had come back to Yorkshire to be closer to his elderly parents. He said:“It’s caused me financial issues and emotional and family issues. All I’m trying to do is open up a shop.”
