Man injured in midnight attack, Batley
A MAN was woken up in the middle of the night and beaten by four men outside his home.
The victim was asleep at his house in Hawthorne Avenue, Staincliffe, when he received a phone call at 12.15am on July 3 from someone pretending to be a friend of his.
When he went outside to see his friend he was met by four men, who were inside a white Volkswagon Golf.
The driver got out of the car and began shouting and swearing at the victim and took his mobile phone from him.
He then lunged at him, hitting him in the face with an object in his hand.
The other suspects also got out of the car and began hitting the victim with a wheel brace and a metal bar before the victim’s father came outside and tried to stop the attack.
The four suspects got back into their car and sped off.
They left a screwdriver at the scene.
The victim was left with a cut near his nose and a badly swollen eye.
A police spokesman said a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to the attack. Call 101 with any information.
