The congregations of the town’s churches are celebrating Women’s World Day of Prayer with a special service at Longcauseway Church on Friday March 4. This year, the service has been prepared by women from Cuba, where men still dominate areas of society such as the economy, politics and religion. The readings celebrate advances that have been made in women’s education and opportunties while also recognising the discrimination they have suffered in the past. All are welcome to attend the service at 2pm.

The Minster is also supporting Fairtrade Fortnight from February 29 - March 13 by setting up a stall which sells a variety of Traidcraft goods. Proceeds provide social premiums and money for community projects in poor countries.Kirklees is a Fairtrade borough and local churches and schools are promoting Fairtrade breakfasts this month to highlight the need to pay workers all over the world a fair price for their produce. The Minster stall can be found in the narthex during opening hours.
