An amazing decission

I READ with amazement the front page story in last week's News on the transfer of day care respite services from the Batley Day Care Centre in Bradford Road to an unknown venue ('Don't take away my day out lifeline', News, April 8).

While I do not have an axe to grind on this matter, it seems to me that currently the Salvation Army were providing an excellent facility under their contract with Kirklees.

For this not to be renewed and awarded to Age Concern, who it seems do not have an equivalent alternative, is an example of crass stupidity and highlights the total folly of the tendering process, and the incompetence of the council officers involved.

It simply beggars belief that a contract to provide day care respite services could be awarded to an organisation that is unable to specify in detail how such a contract would be fulfilled.
