Batley bookie Janice takes a bald step!
THERE'S no such thing as a bad hair day for Janice Thewliss, who didn't have a second thought about having her shoulder-length hair shaved off.
Janice, a cashier at William Hill bookmakers in Batley, took out the razor in support of a close friend who is going through chemotherapy and, as a result, has lost her hair.
But now Janice has taken to the new “do” and plans to keep it that way.
“It’s just so much easier now, and I’m absolutely loving it,” she said. “I wasn’t fazed in the slightest when they came at me with the razor, I was just thinking about my friend.”
Janice, 45, asked customers at the Commercial Street betting shop for sponsorship, and was overwhelmed when bosses at William Hill said they would match anything she raised.
She has presented Kirkwood Hospice with a cheque for 1,300.
“It’s really fantastic and I’m chuffed to bits,” said Janice, who lives in Owl Lane, Shaw Cross.
“A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me. William Hill has been amazing, to say I’ve only worked there for a year.
“Kirkwood Hospice is a charity very close to my heart so I’m pleased I could help them in this way.”
