Batley Carnival 4 Life video footage

BATLEY town centre was packed with revellers at this year's Carnival 4 Life on Saturday.

The event was hailed a great success by the organisers who said it was a real boost for the town.

The hundreds of people who came to enjoy a variety of attractions enjoyed sunny weather, and the final of Batley's Got Talent, held on a stage with a big screen in Market Place, attracted a lively audience.

Towns Centre Manager Andrew Sloman said: "We were delighted with the carnival and it was fantastic to see the town centre packed."

The carnival involved a rich variety of entertainment, including dry-land synchronised swimming, a snake charmer, a Chinese Circus and an acrobatics show.

Students from Batley School of Art and Design performed a fashion show with some of their own designs, and the shop fronts were decorated with displays by the students and Armada Arts.

The entertainment was topped off with the final of Batley's Got Talent, with 11 acts competing for the trophy and cash prize.

It was the fourth Carnival 4 Life. Unlike in previous years, the action all took place over one day and Commercial Street remained open to traffic.

Mr Sloman added: "These events are all about bringing people into Batley so they can see everything the town has to offer, and traders reported that they'd had a good day and seen lots of customers they hadn't seen before.

"This year we took the precaution of getting a marquee, but it was sunny all day!

"I'd like to give a huge thanks to all the people who made it happen and I hope it will continue in future years."
