Batley's 'biggest ever' cannabis farm uncovered

BATLEY police have uncovered the biggest cannabis factory they've ever found.

A house in Hanging Heaton was found to contain more than 150,000 worth of the drug.

About 500 plants were discovered at the house in Bromley Street, after a tip-off from locals.

Insp Neil Money, of Batley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the whole house was being used to cultivate the drug.

"Every room in the house had been used to grow the plants. The only room that wasn't rigged up with the lighting and didn't have plants growing was the loft.

"We've done about 40 or 50 of this raids as the NPT, and this was the biggest cannabis factory we've come across."

Insp Money said the policing team had been contacted by members of public concerned about the house.

"We were contacted by someone who was concerned about some strange goings on, not necessarily that the property was being used to grow cannabis. It was only when we executed a warrant that we discovered what

the house was being used for.

"This amount of cannabis is a lot of money, between 150,000 and 180,000, probably nearer 200,000 if the plants were fully grown," he said.

"This is another example of Batley NPT working with members of the public to stop cannabis production in our area."

A man was arrested and has been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
