News update...

Police have revealed what was in a package that led to their station in Dewsbury being evacuated.

A spokesman said today (Friday) that experts had inspected the package which was handed in yesterday.

He said they found it was ‘material used in the construction industry’, but did not give any more detail.

All staff were told to leave the police station in Aldams Road after the package was handed in at 3.58pm on Thursday.

Cars were blocked from entering Aldams Road between the health centre and the Minster and were being diverted along Mill Street West.

Parts of the bus station were also evacuated though buses were still running.

A police spokesman said: “If a member of the public finds something that they are in any way unsure about we would urge them to call police immediately on 101.”
