Could you foster for us?

Could you foster for us?

Nearly 20 years ago I made the decision to become a foster carer, leaving behind a career in teaching and youth work. It is the best decision I could have made.

There is now a shortage of 1,300 foster carers in Yorkshire, Humberside and the North East at a time when more children need foster homes. This means children too often face moving a long way from their family and friends and many cannot live with their brothers or sisters.

More local foster carers are needed for local children and during this year's Foster Care Fortnight (May 17-30) we are calling for more people with the right skills and qualities to come forward.

I feel proud to have been able to make a difference to the lives of so many children and I would urge your readers to consider doing the same.

To find out more people should speak to their local fostering service, call Fosterline on 0800 040 7675 or visit www.couldyoufoster.org.uk
