Don't forget Batley's newest shop

A NEW shop has opened for business in Batley.

The Forget Me Not Trust has brought an empty building in Commercial Street back to life with a new charity shop.

This is the third new store to open on the high street in just a few months, bringing a further boost to the town centre.

Retail development manager for the charity, Mick Prescott, said: "This is a great location and we're thrilled to be in Batley. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work from the staff and volunteers are we are very grateful for all the wonderful support we have received."

Everything from handbags to clothes, books, CDs, jigsaws and children's toys are available, as well as Forget Me Not merchandise.

Kerry Murtaza, who works at the shop with Joanne Jackson, said: "We're astounded by how generous the local community have been. We have had so much donated."

The Forget Me Not Trust is looking for more volunteers to help both in the shop and in the community. For more information about volunteering for the charity please contact Wendy Bentley on 01484 487570 or pop in to the shop and speak to Kerry Murtaza or Joanne Jackson.

The shop will be open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm Saturdays and 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday and any donations would be welcome.

The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust is currently raising funds to provide specialist hospice and respite services for life-limited children from Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield.

The Trust's team will provide care and support for the whole family initially at home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This will be followed by a specialist centre to be built in Brackenhall, Huddersfield.

It is estimated that the building will cost about 3.1m to complete and more than 1.5m per year to run.

The vast majority of these costs will have to be raised through fundraising, charity shops and community events.
